Synopsis

This Guidance Note sets out good practice for managing agents that employ contractors/providers for services and maintenance.

It does not cover the health and safety requirements of employment of contractors and designers to undertake construction work because this is covered in ARMA's Guidance Note on Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

It covers in part the requirements of employing contractors and consultants to undertake fire safety work although further details can be found in ARMA's Guidance Note on Fire Safety.

It sets out criteria to be used to vet contractors.

Sources of help to managing agents vetting possible contractors are listed.

Remember-you need to ensure the work is properly managed and not just “outsourced”.

HSE stresses that the use of contractors is a joint responsibility you cannot delegate away all responsibility for H&S to your contractors.
